The “BURTON JOYCE PRESERVATION SOCIETY”
27th Annual General Meeting - 29th April 2010 ( Village Hall 19:30hrs)
B J Preservation Society - 2009/2010 - 29/04/10

Retiring Charman Peter Toghill presented with an appreciative momento by Association Secretary John Byron
This years annual meeting held in the Village Hall on the same breezy/rainy evening as the final Political Leaders Election TV debate attracted over 60 residents/members - all noticeably “young in mind”, caring, yet very probably over 65years.
The evening was very pleasant and sociable with many aspects of interest and concerns being expressed, ie “pot holes” in Main Street - (Gordon Reeves), poor and dangerous surfaced condition on our Bridal Ways.
Steve Wright produced several photographic prints illustrating several damaged grass verges, poor pavement areas plus the shocking overgrown pedestrian pathway alongside the Lord Nelson carpark leading to the Railway crossing .
The lack of remedial action necessary to remedy these pedestrian areas was questioned particularly as the Council had invested much finance in providing modified, relatively unused cycle ways and constructing cycle racks in the village centre.
At this point of the evening it was brought to the attention of the meeting ( John Byron) that several years ago there used to be an annual village pathway walk, to check the conditions of the BJ pavements and report the conditions found to the Nottingham County Council as requiring attention. This no practice longer appears to be undertaken.
The meeting also endorsed the new initiative to re-establish the BJ Neighbourhood Watch
A comment requesting the Association's endorsment for the newly established “Christmas Illuminated Cross” appeal, created by several of the BJ Methodist congregation to finance a replacement for the missing original . This "cross" has, for many years, routinely been mounted to the tower of the village Methodist Church and illuminated to supplement the annual luminations, which celebrate and highlight village Christmas festivities. Many in the community have expressed their concern and sadness that this original significant landmark was missing from the village Christmas illuminations
