THE SILENT MAJORITY can SPEAK OUT - if and when invited
Having spent several months, tempting the BJPC to come out and engage with the community, we now consider it time to bring in the troops - The SILENT MAJORITY - 72 % of our village population ( 2001 census). Which is why we at BJ Online have been chatting and discussing local affair with numerous and random selected BJ Residents to give them a personal opportunity to voice their opinions and concerns . Some of the results are as follows
1) Why is it the BJPC do not organise “Open Focus Group” meetings - quarterly thro out the year, on a Saturday morning - inviting ( and not just by an announcement on the village Notice Board or somewhere hidden in their website) but with genuine personal written invitations to attend and join in, to all groups in the village eg The WI, Mothers Union, Youth Leaders, Residents Association, the BJ Preservation Society, BJJFC, Senior Citizens Groups, BJ Players , The Scouts and Guides, The BJU3A, Local History Society etc etc we could go on and on ( we apologise for the brevity of this list but we could go on for ages without getting to the crux of the subject ). There is so much wealth and experience, lateral thinking and fresh ideas within our society, yet ongoing administrations all appear to hesitant with, and more often than not neglect, engagement with this potential - so come on BJPC - 4 Focal groups a year on a Saturday morning in the Village Hall. We don’t want planned random News Letters and brief diluted comments and out of date Minutes within your website let us have some genuine constructive engagement with the residents.
2)Here are a few more of the suggestions coming from the SIILENT MAJORITY
Speed humps in Main Street - CCTV - Parking restrictions ( Note! these will not affect “Blue Badge” owners)- One way system ( OUT via Chestnut Grove /In via Meadow Lane)- Speed inhibitors along Church Road ( Islands, 2 extra Zebra crossing with Traffic Lights etc)- Community Watch ( Online plus the use of mobile phones)- Youth Clubs - Improved visible policing -Additional seating in front of the Centre Shops - Day time Chat facilities for the Elderly - Improved cost control at the Poplars - Resident participation and a more rapid completion of the planned “Grove” improvements - A more open and engaging BJPC with improved substance in announcements and minutes etc etc
We now pass the ball over to the BJPC perhaps they will seriously consider the opportunities resulting from the engagement with our SILENT MAJORITY. Will they engage with Quarterly Focus Groups ? .. .. we shall wait and see , and if not, we will revisit the subject again, again and again.
Here at BJ Online We will always be pleased to receive your comments and suggestions
