Burton Joyce is my ancestor home. It's been a while since we left, I believe it was around 1630.
My Grandfather had a disagreement with his father about a girl he wanted to marry. His father was John Stout and his mother was Elisabeth Bee. My Grandfather joined the Navy and served six years and was discharged in New Amsterdam where he married my Grandmother around 1640. He was on a rescue team that freed her from the Indians that were holding her captive. Her name was Penelope Lent and her story can be found by googling Penelope Stout.
Just checking in to see if any of the Stouts still live there. If so maybe we can email so I can find out more about my family.

Looked up some more stuff. Richards father was John born in 1580. He married Elisabeth Bee in 1609 at Burton Joyce Perish, Nottingham.
Was wondering if Burton Joyce was the same as Burton Joyce Perish? Know its a long shot to find any family still back in England but you never know until you ask.
Also read about the history and the plague started about the time my Grandfather left. Doesn't fit in with family history but during the plague it was a good idea to leave and go far.
See that some have read my post and I want to thank you all.
Going back one more generation. Johns father was William and married Sarah Moon. I don't know the dates.

Hi there Richard - Pleased to see you using our forum.
I can tell you that there are only 7 "Stouts" listed in the Nottingham Telephone Directory at this time and that looking for family earlier than the mid 1600's is quite difficult because of the Loyalist wars at that time and the destruction of many churches records ( which held family births marriages deaths etc) .
I guess your spelling of "Perish" is the result of a mistake passed down thro the ages and the difficulty even the "educated" church clergy had with legible writing and spelling.
Some time ago I believe I heard of another Burton Joyce way up in the moor areas of Yorkshire/Lancashire but never really pursued it, as it did not appear to have much relevance to my own line.
I will certainly do a little more investigation for you but please do not hold out much hope for progress at this stage .

Thanks Bee Jay.
Will have to read up on the Loyalist wars. William is as far back as I can go on the Stout side. One of the ladies that married into the family a few more generations down was Rebecka Ashton. Her blood line is traced further back. Interesting read as she was part of the Royal Family. Charlemagne, John Lack land, Richard the Lion Hearted and one of the Charles were her Grandfathers. Just guessing but I'm betting her family were asked to leave England or fled. Wonder if it had anything to do with the Loyalist wars. Just speculating. All I know for sure is she had a very interesting name.
The Stout on the German side spelled the name Stoudt. or Motto was Sans Cum Rege . No one can figure out what it means. Possible lock up you valuables you know the Stout's.

My original Sir name was Staught and was changed to Stout by the Duke of York acording to what I have found on the Internet, So possible this would be the spelling in Parish records.
